5 Phyla of Fungi

Today we reviewed the 5 fungi phyla. We completed a couple of worksheets labelling the parts of mold, mushrooms and yeast, labelling their different types of hyphae, and labelling and taking notes on the reproduction of mold.

Kingdom Fungi

Today we took some notes on Kingdom Fungi. Then the class had time to complete their animal/plant cell diagrams and definitions and Section Review 19 - 1.

Today we reviewed plant-like protists and finished our game. Then we had the Plant-like Protists Quiz.

Live Protist Lab

Today we reviewed the general characteristics of all protists: single-celled, with a nucleus and organelles.

The rest of the class was for finding protists on slides, identifying them and answering questions about them.

Protist Cells and the Slime Mold Life Cycle

Today we went over the parts of a protist cell, learned the definitions of those parts and labelled some diagrams. Then we watched a video called "Kingdom Protista" and filled in video notes whcih included learning about the slime mold life cycle. At the end of class we had time to finish our lab diagrams and hand them in at the end of class.

Protist Lab (Prepared Slides)

This class we finished our overview of plant-like protists and did our first protist lab. We looked at samples of both animal-like and plant-like protists:

ameba
mixed protozoa (we tried to recognize one or more of the first three in this mixture)

Today we began learning about plant-like protists from Sec. 18-3. Students worked in groups on a portion of the text to make notes and prepare a handout for a short presentation next class.
